Macroinvertebrate Field Trip Training
North Clackamas Watershed Council
NCWC is seeking volunteer field trip leaders for their 2026 Macroinvertebrate season. Macroinvertebrate survey volunteers will:
Assist with 3 or more 1 1/2 hr surveys throughout the survey season (September – November)
Work with students 6th-11th grade in an outdoor setting
Answer questions about macroinvertebrate collection methods
Assist students with collecting their macroinvertebrate samples from the creek or impoundment
Help students to identify macroinvertebrates using provided dichotomous keys and ID books
Help to keep data sheets and equipment organized during the survey
This year there will also be opportunities for volunteers to participate in weekend community surveys in Kellogg Creek as well as surveys in Mt. Scott and Cedar Creek for monitoring additional restoration efforts in the watershed.
Previous experience with macroinvertebrate identification, stream surveys and environmental education is not required, but is always helpful!
