Beaver Creek Marsh

Location off the Oregon coast near Ona Beach, south of Newport
Acres 78
Steward John Van Staveren  jvanstaveren@pacifichabitat.com

The Happ Wetland at Beaver Creek Marsh is a pristine coastal wetland just south of Newport.  It is one of the few remaining undisturbed freshwater wetlands on the west coast.  Beaver Creek Marsh provides habitat for waterfowl, native coho salmon, steelhead and cut-throat trout.

This wetland was purchased with the inspiration and assistance of Lela E. Wagner of Texas in memory of her sister Estella Matilda Happ.  Students from Waldport Elementary School and Newport High School, as well as many other individuals, have contributed toward its purchase and ongoing protection.

A wonderful way to see the wetland is by paddling up Beaver Creek.  There is a boat ramp off the east side of Hwy. 101 opposite the entrance to Ona Beach State Park.
